A. Dzongri treks

The
trail runs through moss-laden forests of oak, chestnut, pine, maple, magnolia
and rhododendron culminating in the meadows of Dzongri at 4,000 meters with
exceptional mountain views. It is a naturalists paradise. These forests
harbor hundreds of varieties of wild plants, exotic orchids vie for attention
with equally spectacular varieties of birds and butterflies. Some of the animals
found along this trail are the Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Musk Deer,
Marbled Cat, Langur and the Red Panda
Day 01 : Drive to Yuksum
Day 02 : Yuksum trek to Bakhim
Day 03 : Bakhim trek to Phidang
Day 04 : Phidang trek to Dzongri
Day 05 : Dzongri
Day 06 : Dzongri treks back to Tshoka
Day 07 : Tshoka treks to Yuksum
B. Gochela Pass
The trek goes from 6800' to 16500', passing from thick jungle type forest, rhododendron
forest and conifers up to the glaciers and scree slopes of the alpine zone.
The best views are in the mornings before the cloud comes up the valleys. The
views of the south face of Kanchenjunga from the pass are awesome. Sikkim is
more a wilderness area compared to Nepal, with only one small village on the
trek, yet the trails, bridges and trekking huts are very well built.

Day 04 : Phidang trek to Dzongri

C. 10-Day Tholung Valley Trek (Gangtok - Phodong - Mangan - Singhik - Tholung
Monastery)

Tolung
valley in North Sikkim is the home of the ethnic Lepcha people of Sikkim and
is now a protected area. The lepchas live in small villages amongst the dense
forested slopes high above the Tholung valley. The Tholung monastery houses
many relics and antiques collected from other monasteries for safe keeping.
Many of these relics are displayed on a special day every three years. The trek
up this beautifully forested valley leads to the higher alpine valleys where
yaks graze below the snow capped mountains of the Kanchanjunga range.
Best Season : March-June and October-November.
Trek Grading : Easy to Moderate.
Maximum Altitude : 2600mm/8000ft.
Starting & Endging Point : Bagdogra or Bhadrapur Airport.
DAY 01 : Arrive Bagdogra Airport, Drive to Bagdogra to Gangtok (1600m).
Overnight Hotel.
DAY 02 : Full day sightseeing around Gangtok including Rumtek Monastery.
Overnight Hotel.
Day 03 : Drive north of Gangtok to Mangan and on to Singhik. Enroute
visit Podong Monastery. Overnight camp at Singhik.
Day 04 : Enjoy early morning views of Kanchanjunga range from Singhik.
Drive from Singhik to the road-head at Lingsha. Start trek to Tsana (1573m)
in Tholung valley. Overnight camp.
Day 05 : Continue trekking up the valley to Tholung Gompa (2600m). Afternoon
visit the little known Tholung Monastery. Overnight camp near Monastery.
Day 06 : Day of exploration hike up the Tholung Valley. Overnight camp.
Day 07 : Trek back to Lingsha. Overnight Camp.
Day 08 : Early morning drive to Singik for views of Kanchanjunga Range.
Drive back to Gangtok. Afternoon free in Gangtok. Overniht hotel.
Day 09 : Free day in Gangtok. Optional day trip to Thangu Lake. Hotel.
Day 10 : Drive to Bagdogra airport for flight to Calcutta or Delhi. Or
to Bhadrapur for flight to Kathmandu,
